The ban on uranium mining in WA was lifted in 2008, thanks to the good work of people like you there is still not a single operating uranium mine. There is, however, a very real threat.

There are two uranium mine proposals that are currently under assessment in the Northern Goldfields - Wiluna Extension and Yeelirrie.

As the WA EPA and the State Environment Minister consider these proposals we will be walking to reconnect to the country, walking side by side with Traditional Owners and demonstrating that uranium mining is unnecessary, unwanted and unsafe.

With a state election looming and both a state Labor and Greens party in opposition to uranium mining we are hopeful that together we can stop the threat of uranium mining in this unique desert environment.

To make the Walkatjurra Walkabout happen and to support local involvement we need your help. We need to raise $4000 to cover fuel and food for local involvement in the walk. You can register to be part of the walk at www.walkingforcountry.org but you can also support walkers by making a tax deductible donation.
