Syria is in transition.
Since the start of the Syrian conflict in 2011, nearly half a million people have been killed and half of Syria’s prewar population displaced. The political realities in Syria have transitioned to a “post-war” state of rebuilding. Now more than ever, the need to tell the stories of more than 6 million internally displaced people, as well as the 6 million refugees outside of Syria whose fates remain uncertain is stronger than ever.
Independent media is declining.
Interest in Syria has waned amidst other regional conflicts, but the stories of the millions of Syrian struggling to make sense of the next chapter of their lives are as vivid as ever. Even as international media attention and stakeholders turn away from Syria, there is a growing need for in-depth, investigative journalism to chart the future trajectories of the conflict. Since 2013, Syria Direct has been a leading source on the events unfolding on the ground inside Syria. In addition, Syria Direct hosts a vibrant training program that, to date, has trained over 200 aspiring Syrian journalists in the tenets of professional journalism.
Syria Direct's work is more vital than ever.
Syria Direct is uniquely placed to produce robust, independent journalism as the conflict enters a new stage. Amid an economic downturn, rising unemployment, continued insecurity and instability, as well as calls for refugees to return home, Syria Direct is determined to continue reporting the untold stories with integrity, diligence, and an overarching commitment to the truth.
Support Syria Direct today!
Through its second annual fundraiser, Syria Direct aims to ensure that Syrians possess the journalistic tools and platform necessary to report on the events unfolding in their country. Join our cause today!
Here is how your support will make a difference:
$100 will support one of our journalists in conducting an investigative reporting project.
$500 will enable the participation of our Syrian staff in an advanced investigative reporting training.
$1,000 will support the work of one of our Syrian journalists for an entire month.
In addition, GPD Charitable Trust has generously agreed to match all donations made during the campaign, doubling your impact.
Keep up with our content at SyriaDirect.org!
Please note that all of Syria Direct's journalists are based in Amman, Jordan. No funds generated by this campaign will go into Syria.
Syria Direct is a project of Near East Training Program, a registered Jordanian organization. Each dollar raised will go to support the elements of our work outlined above, as well as the sustained employment of our Syrian reporters. This fundraiser is made possible by our financial partner, the GPD Charitable Trust, based in the United States.
