My name is Bob Bramley and I plan to break the world record for the youngest person to circumnavigate Australia solo by aircraft. my world record attempt will run in partnership with Beyond Blue to raise awareness about youth suicide prevention.
I’m 16 years old and growing up on a farm in North-West Tasmania. I have a strong passion for aviation and hope to one day pilot the Boeing 787 Dreamliner for Qantas. I was named Student Pilot of The Year at my flight school in October 2017 and in January completed my first solo flight.
I’ve shared my passion for aviation through my involvement in Scouts and this year developed the first aviation training program for Scouts in Tasmania. Please view this article using this link, https://www.theadvocate.com.au/story/5366755/teenager-launches-aviation-training-program-for-local-scouts/. Last year I also became the youngest person in the history of Scouts Tasmania to be appointed Tasmanian State Coordinator for Scout Air Activities.
My passion for youth suicide prevention stems from personal experiences with friends who’ve grappled with their mental health. Youth suicide is a major issue for North-West Tasmania with 45 out of every 100,000 people every year committing suicide which is the highest rate in the country. It’s a problem shared by many of the regional towns I will visit during my solo flight around Australia.
I will be departing Devonport on January 7th, 2019, and will be visiting over 30 airports across the country ranging from regional to metro areas. The flight will cover over 13,000 kilometres and will connect with community groups of different gender, standing, beliefs and ethnic backgrounds. The conclusion of the flight will be in late January or early February depending on weather and any unexpected problems throughout the flight.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my request.
Yours in Aviation
