Raise $ = Raise Our Roots

We're rooted in the fact that our work is for Southeast Asians, by Southeast Asians. This year, your generous financial contribution will help us expand our programming to reach even more Southeast Asian communities who lack access to learning about their heritage, history, and native language. Keep our costs low, so we can keep it affordable for our community. We need to raise at least $10,000 this Fall to jumpstart our language and culture workshops, which includes expanding and developing programming to include our targeted groups who come from refugee immigrant diaspora experiences: Hmong, Khmer, Lao and Vietnamese.

The $ goes to:

  • Build quality content and curriculum in Hmong, Khmer, Lao and Vietnamese language, culture and history.
  • Create streamlined and quality workshop sessions, coursebooks, materials and resources.
  • Compensate our teachers and the creatives behind the work fairly and equally for their wealth of expertise and knowledge.
  • Equip our classrooms with updated digital technologies for better accessibility and supporting our teachers and students.
  • Provide scholarships to learners with limited incomes to attend the workshops.

Our Mission: We #PlantTheSEAD

The SEAD Project started with a group of Southeast Asians who wanted to not only connect with their roots and heritage, but to think bigger and beyond preservation as a diaspora movement. Started in 2010, The SEAD Project (Southeast Asian Diaspora Development) is a creative social venture on a mission to be an accessible community hub that provides streamlined cross cultural workshops, exchanges and knowledge-sharing for Southeast Asian diaspora communities. Through safe and welcoming spaces, we hope to connect the disconnected and drive empowerment to plant the seeds of hope and possibility, locally and globally.

Our Issues: Snapshot of Southeast Asians

Minnesota is home to one of the largest and most thriving Hmong, Khmer, Lao and Vietnamese communities, post-1975 resettlement era. Research consistently points to Southeast Asians holding the lowest educational and economic outcomes compared to other Asian American groups. This is where SEAD comes in. We believe in community development through what we already know and have: our cultural assets. We’re a diaspora movement facilitating that change through two access points: creative engagement and education. By co-creating with the communities we come from, live in, and thrive in-- we’re empowering the next generation to be transformative in how we view development through language learning and storytelling.

And here’s how we thank you...

We love our supporters. That's why we'll give you a shoutout, a personal thank you e-card in our languages and limited supply of goodies (if you choose to claim them).

All donations are tax-deductible. Our federal EIN: 47-4088420.
