A little bit of context
The Colombian Amazon has some of greatest natural resources in the world. But the indigenous people who live there are extremely poor. We believe that through education they can improve their lives and live sustainably in one of the most beautiful jungles on Earth.
But there’s a problem
Sometimes a student of the community schools in the Colombian Amazon may strongly desire to attend school, but is not able to do so. While students do not pay to attend public school, they must supply their own uniforms, shoes, 12 notebooks, pens, pencils, art supplies, and other small school-related expenses during the year. Their families are not able to meet these expenses.
Here’s what we’re doing about it
The Amazon Pueblo Sponsor a Student Program helps these students to attend school. For $110/year a student's expenses may be met. The Amazon Pueblo project will use the funds to directly buy and give the materials to the student. The teachers will monitor the attendance and progress of each student.
As an added benefit, all students who attend school in the are provided (by the local government) with free school lunch.
You can join us
In all, we are raising funds to support at least 25 students for the 2020 school year.
And here’s some amazing perks for supporting us that you can’t live without
A yearly update of the student’s progress, with pictures, will be emailed to the student’s sponsor. Last year each student also wrote a letter to their sponsor and showed their house in a short video. We hope to continue this tradition!
