A little bit of context

Grappa’s Cellar is not just a restaurant, but an important performing arts and cultural venue in Hong Kong. A great supporter of live music in particular, it has hosted numerous cultural, charity and community events for the past 20 years. To name a just a few: local bands and musicians such as 24Herbs, Victoria Jazz Band and Eugene Pao, comedians Al Murray and Tom Green, Grammy Award winners Lee Ritenour and Ernie Watts. Charities supported include Feeding HK and Operation Santa Claus, among numerous others. RegularSunday events sponsored by Filipino businesses showcase Filipino entrepreneurs and community.

But there’s a problem

Hongkong Land has decided not to renew Grappa's lease when it expires July 31, 2019. The reason cited is for a “change of concept” – and the plan is to turn it into a food court.

Here’s what we’re doing about it

We urge Hongkong Land to consider the cultural significance of the Cellar and renew their lease. We need places like this that showcase local artistic talent and cultural diversity. We need corporates to recognize that arts and culture are vital to quality of life, and bind people to their community. Sustainable development choices, which include supporting living arts and culture, is crucial to Hong Kong's spirit and identity. It's good for business, and it's good for Hong Kong people.
