Bushfires Kill 500 Million...

The Australian Wildfires are causing destruction on an unprecedented scale. The problem has caused an estimated 500 million animal deaths so far, and with the fires expected to last at least another month, we need to act fast to save entire species from extinction.

About Rewilding Australia

Rewilding Australia in an Australian not-for-profit that works in partnership with government and community organisations to restore missing species to our landscapes. Rewilding Australia is linking Australia’s past with Australia’s future by restoring our ecosystems. They are reversing the decline of Australia’s wildlife by supporting the reintroduction and protection of keystone species, our quolls, devils and the dingo.

Our Emergency Mission

Your donation will help keep Rewilding Australia's teams in the field and help Australian rewilding programs that aim to ensure our wild places don't lose their unique animals. As soon as our team can access bushfire ravaged regions, ecosystem monitoring will begin, to gain a better understanding of just what has been lost and where we can help most.

The Rewilding Australia team are a familiar face in the National Parks and surrounds in the Shoalhaven region of NSW, where the region has been devastated by fire for the past month. In the heart of the Shoalhaven lies the once green Kangaroo Valley - home of the southern-most colony of endangered brush-tailed rock wallaby, a small graceful species now clinging to existence in only the most rugged of country. At least one of the three remaining colonies has been hit hard by the fire.

Funds will help Rewilding Australia support the Friends of the Brush-tailed Rock Wallaby Association support-feed the colonies (using sweet-potato and lucerne), while their food source grows back. Funding will also assist in introducing additional wallabies back into the region, once the fires have been extinguished and their habitat has been restored sufficiently to allow the wallabies to persist and to ensure that the colony is appropriately monitored by dedicated local volunteers. Rewilding Australia will also use funds to provide assistance to Koala Ark - an initiative of their conservation partner Aussie Ark. Koala Ark will be used to develop a initial protected 65 hectare sanctuary home for koalas that have been injured by the fires and might otherwise not be able to re-enter the wild.
