Rainforests are essential for life on Earth.

Did you know that the world's most ancient and biodiverse rainforests aren't in the Amazon, they're in Australia?

Rainforests support around 50% of the land-based species of plants and animals on Earth. Beautiful, dynamic, and structurally complex, these forests are essential contributors to global ecology and represent millions of years of evolution.

But many of our precious rainforests are unprotected and at risk.

The Daintree is Australia's largest rainforest – and represents the largest remnant of the massive rainforest that once covered the continent.

While the Upper Daintree made it to World Heritage listing in 1988, the Lower Daintree was set aside for profit and exploitation through subdivision.

Partner with Rainforest Rescue to buy back, restore and protect Australia's Daintree.

Why donate?

Rainforest Rescue is a small charity that has been protecting and restoring rainforests in Australia and internationally since 1998. They do this by purchasing and protecting the biodiversity of high conservation value rainforest, and by re-establishing rainforest through planting, maintenance and restoration.

Rainforest Rescue has worked tirelessly to buy back and protect the Daintree Rainforest in Far North Queensland.

The Daintree is Australia's largest rainforest – and represents the largest remnant of the massive rainforest that once covered the continent.

The Daintree has been in existence for over 100 million years – by contrast, the Amazon is reckoned to be 55 million years old.

The Daintree is arguably the most biodiverse place on the planet. It supports and protects thousands of species of wildlife, many unique to Australia and many that are at risk.

30% of Australia’s frog, reptile and marsupial species, 65% of our bat and butterfly species, 18% of bird species and 12,000 insect species depend on the Daintree ecosystem for their survival. The Daintree and the Great Barrier Reef also support one another through a complex yet elegant relationship based on water, filtration and proximity.

Through Rainforest Rescue's efforts, they have protected 34 properties, created 19 nature reserves and several, vital wildlife corridors. They have planted over 300,000 trees globally as part of their mission to protect rainforests forever.

But there are still over 180 properties that can be brought back into the fold and it is Rainforest Rescue's intention to protect them all.

You can make a difference

Your support allows Rainforest Rescue to target, engage and buy back rainforest that has been slated for development and will help protect wildlife, rare plants and fungi that could be lost forever if habitat is further carved up for short term profit and longer-term human habitation.

Your support will also support the Daintree Native Nursery, ensuring that Rainforest Rescue can continue to propagate genetically appropriate plants and trees that are then put back on to the land, recreating and restoring rainforest that development had displaced and destroyed.

Please join us in protecting the Daintree, Australia’s most ancient and biodiverse rainforest that supports the Great Barrier Reef with clean water, provides refuge for endemic and endangered Australian wildlife and helps mitigate climate change by providing an efficient and powerful carbon capture and storage system that we can’t live without.
