Why a footy match?
We believe that it's so important to for parents to set a positive example of being physically active, getting involved in your community and having fun at the same time.
The 2016 Active Health Kids Australia report found that only 22-25% of parents of children between 8-9 & 12- 13 years meet the national physical activity guidelines.
We realised that schools & sporting clubs are at the heart of healthy communities, and we had a real opportunity to make something really special happen - and that is how the Shore Reserve Showdown was born.
So we have put the challenge to the mums and dads of Coburg West Primary School to strap on their boots and play a game of footy against Pascoe Vale South Primary to raise funds the schools.
We have asked the parents to get off the couch and on the oval, to learn some new skills, to get muddy, to get messy and most of all, to have fun.
On August 5th 2018, we facing off against each other in a football match. Parents from each school are getting active, getting to know each other and others in our community and setting a great example for our kids.
YMCA will be running kids fitness activities on the day to encourage them to get involved and Coburg West Football Club, Brunswick Mudlarks Masters Football Club, AFL Victoria and Active Moreland, Old Faithful Cafe and Good Times Cafe have all come on board as sponsors. The support of these awesome organisations means that all money raised can go directly to our schools.
This is the stuff that will be talked about at BBQ's and get togethers for years to come & it's happening because it is backed by a generous tribe of volunteers from; baristas, photographers, physios, umpires, cake makers, sausage sizzlers, face painters, graphic designers, first aiders, coaches and cheers squads.
Are you with us?
On this page, you can see the players who have risen to this challenge and who have put their reputation on the line. For some of them, they've never played footy, and that weirdly-shaped ball is making them work hard!
We are asking for your support (OK your money), and at Coburg West Primary School it will be used to purchase books for our new classroom libraries - we want our kids to develop a life-long passion for books & the classroom libraries will be filled with books for the pleasure of reading.
Thank-you for your support!
