The Hopkins High School Nordic Team
The Hopkins High School Nordic Ski Team is a community made up of more than 100 student athletes, all of whom love being outdoors, cross-country skiing together, and enjoying the Minnesota landscape blanketed in snow. Check us out at http://www.hopkinsnordic.com or @HopkinsNordic17.
Skiing is a sport in which everyone on the team can play, participate, and compete, regardless of their years of experience or skill level. Hopkins' Nordic Team promotes health, teaming, and the enjoyment of our winter surroundings. We welcome everyone and want to ensure that any Hopkins student who wishes to ski has that opportunity.
Making Skiing Available to Everyone
We work hard to limit the barriers to entry. Unlike many sports, where an athlete can walk from class to the gym or step outside onto a field or a pitch, there are no practice facilities for Nordic skiing at Hopkins High School. Our skiers must be bussed to and from surrounding parks and ski areas. The school district pays only part of this cost. The Hopkins Nordic Ski Team Boosters Club raises money through events like this to ensure that our skiers have safe and reliable transportation; that first-year skiers can rent skis from the program at a minimal charge; that our skiers have food at meets; and that they have great instruction and coaching -- all while keeping student-piad fees and costs as low as possible.
The Senior Team Captains have planned this Ski-A-Thon to promote fun and teaming among the athletes and help meet the team's financial needs. On December 15, 2017, our skiers will ski 40 kilometers (Varsity), 20 kilometers (JV), and 10 kilometers (Junior High). To celebrate, our Varsity skiers will be cooking pancakes for the more junior skiers as they cross the finish line.
Thank you for your support! It's easy. Pledge a certain amount per kilometer or a lump sum. If you're sponsoring a particular skier, please type that skier's name in the Comments (right after you have entered your donation). Would you rather write a check or give cash? That's great, too. Just give a check or cash to your student skier or send it to the Hopkins Nordic Ski Team Boosters, c/o Treasurer Kim Hunwardsen at 6517 Cherokee Trail West, Eden Prairie, MN 55344. The Booster Club is a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization.
We will be updating this site with progress against our goal and event photos.
We hope to see you on the ski trails!
