Most mental health issues such as addictions, severe mental illness, and PTSD can be managed effectively at their earliest stage. In Nanaimo and its surrounding communities, access to affordable therapeutic counselling for low income residents would be limited without the work of Island Integrated Counselling, a non-profit charitable organization dedicated for more than 20 years to increasing access to affordable therapeutic counselling.
The local need has grown so significantly that after only three months, Gaming Fund resources were spent, and the agency's remaining funds are being depleted rapidly. Without an infusion of $36,000, the agency will be unable to continue offering subsidized counselling services after September 30. We, and the clients we serve, need the financial support of our community.
