Mustard Seed Film Festival is the first and only South Asian film festival in Philadelphia, and is now in its third year! Since its first year, Mustard Seed has grown as a center for South Asian cinema and culture. The festival screens recently-made, socially-engaged films that focus on themes specific to the South Asian experience by South Asian artists. We present films that offer alternative, nuanced, and enriching representations of South Asia to the Greater Philadelphia community.
We uplift films and art from countries with emerging independent film scenes, especially from areas that are often overlooked as cultural centers of South Asia. We seek out and share art created by women and LGBTQI artists, displaced, Dalit and Adivasi artists, religious minorities and other artists on the margins to create a representation of the multiplicity of the South Asian experiences.
