Help the Cajon High School Jazz Band Get to Santa Cruz!

A little bit of context

The Cajon High School Instrumental Music Department in San Bernardino, California is a comprehensive band and orchestra program that includes a marching band, a concert band, two string orchestras, and a jazz band. This year is the first year we have had a full big band instrumentation, and we have been extended an invitation to perform at the Santa Cruz Jazz Festival- a jazz festival that features jazz bands from middle to college levels from all over California!

But there’s a problem

We need help offsetting the costs of the trip- here are the costs involved:

- Registration fees and festival passes for 18 students

- Hotel/lodging

- Van rental

- Fuel costs

We have managed to find donors for registration fees and festival passes, and volunteers have graciously offered to chaperone and provide carpools for students to get to Santa Cruz. The only thing that remains is the cost of our lodging. We are estimated to take 7 rooms for 2 nights at an estimated cost of $220 each night. This brings our total estimated cost to $3200, or about $180 a student.

Here’s what we’re doing about it

Mr. Phung, the instrumental music director, is working in conjunction with the CHS Gold Star Boosters, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports the music department at Cajon HIgh School to organize a multifaceted fundraising campaign- Mr. Phung is organizing a benefit piano recital series around the Inland Empire and Los Angeles region for the Cajon High School Instrumental Music Department promoting this Chuffed fundraiser. The instrumental music department is also reaching out to local community businesses and organizations encouraging donations to the cause!

We need to fundraiser $3200 to safely offset the costs of our trip to Santa Cruz. Any excess will be donated to our music department's general fund, going towards future entry fees, instrument repairs, instruments, and sheet music. You can support by donating and sharing this campaign.

Together, we can send a deserving group of talented students on a potentially life-changing performance trip!
