When a worker at Amazon’s DBK1 Delivery Station in Queens, NY, tested positive for COVID-19, management didn’t report the case to workers or follow the CDC’s recommendation to shut down the facility, and they’ve illegally refused to pay workers who now need to quarantine. This isn’t safe for workers—or the broader public who depends on Amazon for essential supplies.
We all are in danger from Amazon’s mishandling of the COVID-19 crisis. It is likely, given the many reported cases already and the significant lack of testing in the US, that Amazon warehouses are hubs of infection. Given the lifespan of COVID-19, and the lack of safe and sanitary working conditions, these warehouses are certainly endangering workers and their communities, and could be helping spread the virus to the world.
We are fighting to protect workers, and the public. We're demanding that Amazon pay workers in quarantine, and that it establish safe and sanitary working conditions at the DBK1 warehouse and all Amazon facilities.
In the meantime, we're asking supporters for help for food, rent, and other essentials.
This support fund has been set up by volunteer organizers working with Amazonians United NYC, an independent worker-led organizing committee with members in Amazon’s DBK1 facility in Queens, NY. Funds will be managed by the Organizing Committee and dispersed to members to compensate them for lost pay.
