A little bit of context
'LOCAL FOOD. NO WASTE'
We all know that healthy food is vital to the healthy development of kids. The Growing Abundance Project has provided lunches to the students at the Castlemaine Secondary College for the past 4 years, providing healthy and affordable lunches that are made on site with 70% local ingredients. We are slowly expanding to service primary schools in our region via an online ordering system with two primary schools on board already and three more waiting to get involved.
But there’s a problem
To expand the system to accommodate more schools and make it more accessible to more families as well as training staff requires money and time. We currently don't have the capital to get the systems working effectively.
Here’s what we’re doing about it
We have been testing the viability of the Primary School Lunch Project for the last 6 months and have found that families really want lunch providers that offer healthy food choices whilst supporting our local economy. We source 70% of our produce locally and aim to increase that over time. Local food connects people to producers and their produce, resulting in economic and health benefits for everyone in our community. We all win!
You can join us
We need to raise $6500 to:
- Purchase and tailor online ordering software and associated equipment
- Trial and test the system to ensure it delivers effectively
- Train staff to use the system
- Develop a package to present to schools to make it easy to use and available to all families
