Gunyah's on the move!!

Gunyah Animal Healing Sanctuary Inc. is a fully registered charity that saves and enhances the lives of animals who have suffered abuse, neglect or exploitation. Animals who, in many cases had no other hope.

For the past 18 months, a search has been on to find a much needed bigger, more suitable facility from which to run Gunyah. When I moved to the Sanctuary's current location 8 years ago, I never envisaged that so many animals in need could be helped. I've achieved so much more than I could've ever imagined possible, but as a result Gunyah's infrastructure has been stretched to its absolute limits for some time now.

Finally the search is over and in the coming weeks, Gunyah Animal Healing Sanctuary will be relocating to a beautiful new 130 acre safe haven at the foothills of the Strathbogie Ranges. This new property will set Gunyah up for a very, very long time to come, and it will offer the residents some amazing infrastructure and 13 times as much land as they currently have!!

I have personally spent every last cent securing this property for the Sanctuary, which I would do again in a heartbeat, but I need your help to put the finishing touches on it so that the residents will be safe and happy in their new home.

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated and shared this campaign so far. Together we can "build the new Gunyah" so that the residents, current and future, will be safe and happy for a long time to come.

What is needed

I need to raise $30,000 to add to the amazing infrastructure that is already in place at the new property, so that the precious residents will be safe and happy in their new home. The modifications will be done in a number of stages, as follows:

Stage 1 - $10,000 (approx) urgently needed to modify existing fencing
This stage is by far the most critical because I can't move the residents to their new home until I know that the fences are properly set up to keep everyone safe and secure. With the move just several weeks away, this work is about to commence and I need your help to make it happen.

The property is currently set up to cater for horses, but a fair bit of modification needs to be done to the existing fencing so that it's safe and secure for our pig, goat and sheep residents. A new large perimeter fence also needs to be built to cater for our canine residents.

Stage 2 - animal shelters
($12,000 approx)
There are currently no animal shelters on the property, and our residents need to be able to get some comfort from the elements. Gunyah also takes in a lot of orphaned lambs and goat kids, and they will need to be locked up safely at night away from any predators.

The Sanctuary is moving to a higher rainfall area that is quite a bit colder than what our residents are used to. With quite a number of shelters here currently (which are often utilised!), we need to make everyone as comfortable as possible in their new home.

Stage 3 - hospital/nursery area ($10,000 approx)
The Sanctuary's new home has a large well equipped barn, which already has 2 stable doors leading out to a paddock. The inside stables were never completed. With some fairly minor modification, this could be converted to a much needed hospital/nursery area for any sick or orphaned animals.

Gunyah saves a lot of sick, emaciated and orphaned animals, and this area will be vital to the work I do. There is already a CCTV camera installed which runs back to the house so if anyone is in this area, they can be closely monitored from the house.

Stage 4 - pig wallows and goat playground
Pigs physically cannot sweat, so they need water or mud to swim or wallow in during the warmer months. This is vital to their wellbeing as not only does it help to regulate their body temperature, it stops them from getting sunburnt and it keeps the insects at bay.

There will be 3 paddocks set up for our porcine residents, and I'll need to get a bobcat in to dig a pool/wallow for them in each paddock.

Initially there will be 2 paddocks set up for our goat residents. Goats are generally pretty active and they love to play, climb and jump. It keeps them fit and mentally stimulated. One sure way of doing this is to build them an adventure playground!!

The tradies are ready

With the relocation happening in the coming weeks, plans have been in place for some time and tradesman are ready to start work. With all my personal funding going towards buying the property, I need your help to put the finishing touches in place, so that the residents will be safe and happy when they move into their new home.

All support is greatly appreciated, no matter how small. Sharing the link with your friends also helps to raise awareness and it will help us reach that target.

I look forward to building a bigger, better Gunyah with your help so that the current residents will have lots more room to run around, and many more animals in need can be saved well into the future.

From all at Gunyah who will benefit from this much needed expansion, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support.
