Multiple-time California State Band Championships finalists. The only parade band in San Bernardino. An appearance in a Chevrolet Super Bowl commercial (with the Transformer Bumblebee, no less).
The Cajon High School Gold Star Regiment Marching Band is the most active high school marching band from the City of San Bernardino. Averaging around 25 performances and hundreds of rehearsal hours in the fall semester alone every school year, the marching band has developed a motivated group of students with strong work ethic. Many of our students come from working class families. With a strong sense of pride and tradition behind them, the 51 students currently participating in the marching band for the 2019-2020 school year are ready to tackle their 2019 marching season head on!
But there’s a problem
We are currently facing large costs associated with purchasing consumables and replacing aging equipment along with supporting our growing music department. Our music department serves to provide the community of San Bernardino free access to music education and inexpensive acccess to experiences that enrich students' musical growth, and we do not charge the high fees other competitive marching bands charge (one local high school band collects $1000 from each student for just the fall season!)
Here is a current list of marching band supplies that are in desperate need of replacement or acquisition:
-8 Color Guard Rifles
-8 Color Guard Sabres
-6 Keyboard Mallet Bags
-6 Pairs of Vic Firth M231 Marimba Mallets
-3 Pairs of Vic Firth M232 Marimba Mallets
-4 Pairs of Vic Firth M266 Vibraphone Mallets
-2 Pairs of Vic Firth M265 Vibraphone Mallets
-2 Pairs of Vic Firth M135 Xylophone Mallets
-2 Pairs of Vic Firth M132 Xylophone Mallets
-Replacement stock of the keyboard mallets above (think one extra pair of each for our inventory!)
-Replacement stock of bass drum mallets and drum sticks
-Replacement stock of drum heads
-10 Backdrop Props
-20 4' x 8' Vinyl Prints (for backdrop props)
-4 50' Speaker Cables
-9 25' XLR Microphone Cables
Additionally, we are offsetting the costs of costume tops and flag silks for our field show production this year. This is all on top of the entry fees to competitions, which total us around $1500 every year.
Here’s what we’re doing about it
The CHS Gold Star Boosters (the parent booster group) are undertaking a massive fundraising campaign for the 2019-2020 school year to raise funds for the Cajon High School Instrumental Music Department. We have scheduled 3 car washes, a fundraising night at the 66ers (our local minor league team) where the band is performing the national anthem pre-game, we have Los Angeles County Fair tickets consigned for us to sell as a fundraiser, and we have many more fundraisers in the works.
The CHS Gold Star Boosters are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization- all donations are tax-deductible!
You can join us
Fundraising is a team effort, and you can be part of our team by participating in our fundraising efforts! There are a few ways to support our program, but the most direct way to support us is by your monetary support donating to our Chuffed campaign!
Here are a few upcoming fundraisers that you may participate in:
-Car Wash #3 out of 3: Our final car wash for the fall semester will be on Saturday, September 7th 8am-2pm at the Burger King near Kendall and Palm in the north end of San Bernardino. We are selling presale tickets, but are also taking drive-ins and cash donations!
-LA County Fair ticket sales: We are offering discounted any-day tickets to the LA County Fair, and a large portion of ticket proceeds gets donated back to our program by the fair!
-Lucas Oil Off Road Series: Rockstar Energy Golden State Off Road Nationals at Glen Helen Raceway on Sunday, October 6th- purchase tickets online and apply the coupon code "CHS" at checkout and $5 for each ticket will be donated back to our program!
