Children are artists with the capacity to communicate their hopes, ideas, aspirations and personal experiences in intentional, competent and creative ways.
Gallery of Children's Art (GoCA) launching in Brisbane in May 2018, values and respects the voice, ideas and creativity of children, and highlights their capacity to significantly contribute to the cultural life of our community.
The GoCA exhibition and public program will be developed and delivered by a curatorial team led by Dr Barbara Piscitelli AM and it will focus on the diversity of art created by children in early and middle childhood. GoCA will also focus on art by children held in public and private collections - internationally, nationally and locally.
GoCA has been established by a group of passionate, like-minded individuals who recognise children as creative artists who bring a unique perspective on the world.
To realise Stage 1 of GoCA, start-up funding has been provided by C&K. ARIA Property Group have also committed a dedicated space at 17 Manning Street, South Brisbane, for GoCA to utilise for twelve months. Funds are now urgently needed to prepare the launch of Stage 1 of GoCA and the inaugural exhibition project 'Starting Young’, and to assist with ensuring GoCA becomes a permanent undertaking into the future.
Here’s what we’re doing about it
GoCA is committed to collaborating with emerging and established artists, educational institutions and arts organisations to present considered and provocative exhibitions of children's art and related programs.
GoCA supports children in their creative endeavours, giving them a platform to exhibit, profile and discuss their artwork and ideas.
Gallery of Children's Art (GoCA) will develop and present curated exhibitions of children’s art and associated programs.
