Working animals are mistreated every day.
They’re often forced to carry heavy loads for farming, festivals, or construction — weights well beyond their capacity — or used unethically in tourism.
These animals work in punishing environments, given little to no rest, and work with painful harnessing and untreated wounds. They are frequently without adequate water and nutrition.
Animal Aid Abroad is an international non-profit organisation founded by Janet Thomas in 2007, after living and working in Egypt as a teacher and witnessing cruel treatment of street and working animals every day.
The donkeys and horses were appallingly undervalued, beaten and made to carry loads well beyond their capacity. Determined to be a catalyst for change, Janet flew home to Perth and created Animal Aid Abroad (AAA).
AAA partners with local organisations to provide veterinary clinics to treat sick and injured working animals, educate local communities, and provide much needed shelter, food, water, medical supplies, and care to suffering animals.
You can make a difference
Right now, in Bukombe Tanzia, there are hundreds of donkeys using inhumane yoke cart systems causing much pain and suffering, not to mention the routine beatings the donkeys are subject to from their drivers causing terrible injuries and wounds to their bodies.
In 2019, AAA will continue to introduce new and more humane cart systems with proper harnesses, as well as medical clinics and education on the welfare and correct care of animals in the region.
Your donation will help to replace 120 new carts for the donkeys as well as help to support the development of mobile medical clinics in the area.
(Plus, your donation is tax-deductible.)
Your donation through this page will be matched, dollar for dollar, by EthicalJobs.com.au to support Animal Aid Abroad's work, up to $20,000!
