As colonialism continues to be an ongoing process, we want to recognize that this statement is being written on the original homelands of the Miami, Bodéwadmiakiwen (Potawatomi), Peoria, and Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo). We also acknowledge the 12 recognized tribes of Michigan and all of those who were forgotten. We express gratitude for those who have lived and cared for this land for time immemorial.

With COVID-19 turning a corner in Michigan, the devastating financial consequences of the lack of equitable social programs available to Detroit residents are becoming apparent. According to Michigan Data on Michigan.Gov, Detroit alone accounts for 10,558 of the 53,510 confirmed cases in Michigan. With Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne counties included, the toll is significantly higher. Metro Detroit, largely forgotten in allocated resources from the Federal Government needs help now. Due to our communities facing lifelong government violence in the form of housing insecurity, food insecurity, disproportionate “essential worker” status, etc.
With this, the need for mutual aid, the sharing of funds and information amongst our community outside of the context of government-funded social programs, has become apparent. We were inspired by the COVID-19 Mutual Aid Fund for LGBTQI+ BIPOC Folks on GoFundMe.
Please fill out this short Google Form to place your name on the list for aid here.

Seeing that 3,257 of the current confirmed cases come from the Michigan Department of Corrections, 40% of the currently confirmed cases being Black folks as well as considering the lapses in reporting and the relationships of our communities with medical communities, we acknowledge and support these identities.
We are currently prioritizing marginalized and other forgotten identities that include but are not limited to:
Physically or mentally disabled
Southwest Detroiters, East Detroiters, and Metro Detroit Residents
Famly of the currently incarcerated/imprisoned/enslaved
We are not interested in treating each other like cops by policing and prioritizing who is more important. The money from this fund will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis and using an honor system. We believe that most people are good and honest. Don’t be the person who’s not.
