On 12 August, we launched the campaign for the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill. This is a CEE Bill Alliance campaign that has the potential to be the most significant move forward since the Climate Change Act 2008. The presentation of the Bill in Parliament on 2 September was just the beginning.
Written by scientists, lawyers and activists, the CEE Bill is gathering support from a broad range of campaign groups, businesses, charities and individuals. It's based on key principles (rather than a set of prescriptions) and is agile yet scientifically-robust legislation that will create a framework for how we can tackle the climate and nature crisis.
As a private member's bill, taking the CEE Bill through Parliament will be a hard-fought process; but it's been done before with the Climate Change Act 2008 (which started its journey into law in the same way).
We urgently need your help to sustain the campaign to pass the CEE Bill into law by:
- Creating evidence-based materials to build support for the CEE Bill
- Building national and local coalitions of local authorities, businesses, and environmental, community and faith groups
- Pulling the levers of parliamentary democracy to build a groundswell of public and professional support
- Mobilising citizens via a people-powered grassroots campaign.
More than 100 people per day are currently signing up to support the CEE Bill from every corner of the UK. We're excited, but we also need financial support, and £50,000 is our starting target. This will allow us to pay two (part-time) campaign staff for the next twelve months.
Your financial support will help grow a strong campaign through grassroots action and alliance-building until MPs back the campaign and an overwhelming parliamentary majority passes the CEE Bill.
