Our Dream

My name is Kyle Dyck and I, along with my team, are hoping to bring the 1st "pay what you can" cafe called Abby Eats Cafe to the city of Abbotsford, BC.

The Need

We want to help fight food insecurity issues in Abbotsford, while creating a culture of love, acceptance and value to all.

Over 5000 lone-parent families in Abbotsford. Half of children living in lone-parent families are experiencing poverty. (Vibrant Abbotsford)

13% of Canadians live in a state of food insecurity, which means they do not have reliable access to adequate amounts of safe, good-quality, nutritious food.

The average monthly cost of a nutritious food for a family of four in British Columbia in 2015 was $974. This is out of reach for many in our community. (dietitian.ca)

"Pay What You Can" Concept Explained

At Abby Eats Cafe we will offer creative payment solutions for all.

  1. Pay what you can afford.
  2. Pay the full amount of the suggested meal price.
  3. Pay the full amount of the suggested meal price, plus a little extra to “pay it forward.”
  4. Give your time in service to “pay it forward” for your neighbor to enjoy a meal.
  5. Give your time in service to pay for your meal. This provides a “hand up, not a hand out” opportunity

You can join us

Our 1st fundraising goal is $25,000 dollars. This will help us find and secure a store front location in Abbotsford, marketing costs, aquire appropriate licenses, legal fees, kitchen materials.

Our long term launch goal to open is $75,000 dollars. This will allow us to open and begin serving meals. Target is early 2018.

Can you imagine bringing Abby Eats Cafe to Abbotsford?! Let's do it!
