When it rains it pours!

At Greener Pastures, we love showing you the characters who live here and we really don't love having to ask for help, but today more than ever before, we really need to.

It's only March but my goodness 2022 has dealt us a tough hand so far. We're just 10 weeks into the year and now have over $34,000 in outstanding vet bills due. These surgeries and procedures are so crucial to ensure we keep our promise to our rescued pals that they will live out their long, joyful lives with us. But to be frank, we simply don't have the funds at the moment to pay our vets.

We are a volunteer led organisation and rely solely on donations from the public to continue our life saving work. No government funding, no big corporate sponsors...just everyday people who donate to make a real difference in animals' lives.

What's going on?

- On the 15th of February our handsome Ruben was rushed to the vets with a suspected urinary blockage. A month later, he is still in hospital after a complicated recovery which resulted in a urethrostomy to 're-route his plumbing'. He is recovering well and we hope to have him home soon to be reunited with his BFF Creepy Steve.
Ruben's vet bill currently sits at $13,000.

- Mrs Margaret was diagnosed early this year with squamous cell carcinoma on her udder. Unfortunately, the only treatment option is to remove half of her udder. This is a very big and very risky surgery involving multiple vets, blood transfusions and a lengthy hospital stay. This means time away from her beloved daughter Pixie.
Margaret's vet bill is expected to be $10,000.

- On the 11th of February our sweet Willy boy was taken to hospital due to a decreased appetite. We expected maybe an infection, but instead were given the devastating news...leukemia. After weeks of hopsitalisation, 2 x bone marrow biopsies, blood tests, medication, and IV fluids, we took our Willy boy home to await results.
On Wednesday 9 March, Willy passed away peacefully in his sleep after fun filled days with those who loved him most.
Willy's vet bill currently sits at $9,000

- Handsome Romeo Steer was found to have a squamous cell carcinoma on his eye which required surgery for his eye to be removed. Fortunately, Romeo has been blind since birth which means not much has changed in his day to day life. Sadly it seems that the cancer has spread to the bone so we don't know how long we'll have with our sweet boy. Every day is a blessing, and he is loving being back with his adopted brothers.
Romeo's vet bill currently sits at $1,500

- And lastly, our sweet little Cinderella hen was rushed to our expert avian vets this week with an impacted crop. Whilst she is still recovering from her surgery, we don't have all the results yet to see if further surgeries/procedures will be required to get her teenie body healthy again.
