Veterans need help

Many service personnel have life changing experiences as a result of serving their country. But some of those experiences can lead to mental health issues like anxiety, depression and PTSD.

Equine Facilitated Learning has been proven to help with some of these issues. It is an experiential type learning - this means you learn with all your senses - you experience it and this can be eye-opening and life changing in the real world.

Horses are masters of non-verbal communication. When there's nothing left to say or you can't get the words out, the horse doesn't judge. The horse not only accepts you for who you are but senses your emotions - even if you don't know you have them.

But there’s a problem

A lot of veterans don't know about EFL or what it has to offer them.

That's where Clippy comes in... Clippy and four of his mates want to let as many veterans and their families know about the help they can provide!

Clippy was thrilled to receive the Call Up to come to the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 and do a show and tell. The Invictus Games uses the power of sport to unite and inspire service men and women and attracts participants and visitors from all over the world.

Together with his humans from the charity Reason to Thrive, Clippy and his mates Morris, Usher, Sunny and Friday, want to run demonstrations to show veterans and their families all about EFL and let them experience it for themselves.

The boys are out to make a change!

Clippy and the guys are on a mission to get to Sydney! They're taking their Call Up to serve the veterans visiting the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 very seriously.

They will be demonstrating the life-changing healing, horses can provide for the entire week of the Games BUT they live in Brisbane!

How you can help Clippy help Veterans

Clippy and his friends need $10,000 to get them to Sydney, set up their stables and provide information and demonstrations to the service personnel who need their help.

What the boys need to fulfill their Sydney dream:

$1,500 for hay and feed - Clippy is a big Clydesdale cross - his tummy needs filling while he's helping - and he's got 4 mates too!
$2,000 for travelling. Clippy and the boys are driving to Sydney but it's a long trip and they need to stop overnight on the way. And then they need to do it all again on the way home.
$2,500 for setting up the demonstration area outside the entry to ANZ Stadium. Morris is very particular about everything being perfect. "Safety First!" says Morris! (this includes brochures and information for visitors to take away with them).
$4,000 for accommodation. Clippy and the boys are bunking it up near the Olympic Stadium where they'll be holding their demonstrations. This includes construction of stables, bedding, biosecurity and cleaning up the (ahem) bathroom... (Oh and bunkbeds for the humans who are on call!)

About the humans

Reason to Thrive Inc is a registered charity and public benevolent institution based in Brisbane. Our focus is to help wellbeing in children, youth, adults and families who are experiencing disadvantage, disability and mental health issues, by providing equine facilitated therapeutic services.

We are sending four volunteers to Sydney to look after Clippy and the boys and talk to visitors about the benefits of EFL. Cathy Binz is our fully accredited coach and facilitator who will be helping the boys with their demonstration in partnership with EquiCenter NY.
