Recent decades have seen a rise in mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, self-harm and suicidality and a decrease in general wellbeing. You may be aware be that suicide is the most common cause of death in men aged 20-49, but did you know it is also the most common cause of death in children aged 5 - 19?
Amazing Minds was set up as a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to tackle this ever-growing problem through programmes to build the skills of psychological flexibility and resilience in children. Our digital programme for schools is currently being used by over 2000 children across Essex.
The Covid Effect
Covid-19 & lockdown are likely to have far-reaching effects on the mental health of children for many reasons such as: social isolation, death of a loved one, loss of family income, strained family relationships, higher instances of domestic abuse, loss of school-based education and changes to school set-ups.
As a not-for-profit organisation working in the education sector our funds are always tight. As a result to schools currently operating in a much more limited way we have lost our main source of income at a time when the children need us most.
Our aim is to provide all of the children who currently use Amazing Me extended access for the next academic year.
We want to do this for 2 reasons:
1. to ensure that they don't miss out on any of the tools due to not having been in school over the lockdown period
2. to give them another full year of tools, techniques and activities that will build robust mental health, wellbeing and psychological flexibitility and counter the negative effects of this challenging time.
A quid a kid!
In order to achieve this aim we need to raise a total of £2000 which works out at just £1 per child per year!
Yep you read right - £1 of your money will enable a child to use the Amazing Me programme in school for a whole year!
So we are asking individuals and businesses to choose how many children that they would like to help...
£1 helps 1 child
£10 helps 10 children
£30 helps a whole class
£60 helps a whole year group (2 form entry school)
£240 helps a whole school (2 form entry school)
