Running For Opioids
My name is Brandon Arrastia I'm 24 years old, I am running for a cause that is very dear to me. December 3rd, 2017 when I least expected It, I received a call informing me my younger cousin had passed away. I was shooken to my core, my family was devastated and we where all left in tears. Opioid addiction took his life. Ever since, I decided on taking an initiative to raise money and awereness to do something about this growing problem in our nation. I decided to partner up with the HERO Foundation and participate in different, very difficult events to raise money for this cause. In the past it has been climbing, but I received little traction so this time I figured id up the intensity and sign up for a 100 Mile ultra Marathon. In my website www.brandonclimbs.com you can find the blogs and events I will be doing for the opioid awareness campaign.

The HERO Foundations Board members are 100% volunteers and the donations goes to the following activities :
- PROVIDING GRIEF COUNSELING AND SUPPORT SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WHO HAVE LOST A LOVED ONE.
- PROVIDING FAMILY COUNSELING AND SUPPORT SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WHO HAVE A LOVED ONE WHO HAS A SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER.
- PROVIDING PUBLIC EDUCATION ON OPIOID USE.
- ADVOCACY FOR PUBLIC POLICY DIRECTED AT TREATING THIS AS A PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE AND REDUCING OVERDOSE DEATHS.
For the past 8 months, I have been using my climbs around the world to raise awareness for the opioid problem. This seemed to work at first but the donations stopped coming in after a while. In an effort to ramp up the awareness and donations, I have decided on taking on something a bit more impacting and so I signed up for the Keys 100 on May 18th. Its a 100 miles ultra marathon from key largo to key west with a 32 hour cut off time. I will put all my energy, focus and grit in completeing this challenge with the singular goal of raising as much awareness as possible for this ever growing problem in the United States.
Any donation helps, the goal is to prevent these tragedies from happening. The rate of overdoses is skyrocketing and it includes all people from all walk of life that are being affected.
