About The Community Foundation for Central Victoria

The Community Foundation for Central Victoria is a not for profit organisation dedicated to strengthening the communities of Central Victoria. We help individuals, businesses and organisations to give where we live in order to promote change by focusing on innovative and collaborative solutions to critical issues impacting the community.

The Community Foundation was founded in 2002 and over the last five years awarded over $260,000 to more than 40 local not for profit organisations and 2,500 school children across our region.

Centred in Bendigo our region stretches from the Murray to the Macedon Ranges. Every year we make grants to groups and to individuals through scholarships. In 2013 and 2014 we hosted the Glass Slipper ball raising over $100,000 for homeless youth. This year we are hosting Australia’s first Community Giving Day – Big Give as a fresh approach to engage our community in philanthropy and to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in giving.

Who Can Join?

Community Groups, Not For Profit Organisations and Sporting Clubs (organisations) within Central Victoria are encouraged to set up their own campaign on Big Give.

We have four tests on the type of campaigns we accept. Is it for a social cause that fits into one of our eight categories (Social Enterprise, Refugees and Asylum Seekers, Health and Disability, Community, Environment, Education, Animal Welfare or Social Welfare)? Is it a 'project' that has a finite outcome? Is it run by a real person or organisation? Are the beneficiaries in the Central Victoria region?

Note that while we do accept social cause campaigns from religious organisations, we don't accept campaigns that are explicitly about promoting any particular religion.

Protest groups and political groups are not eligible to fundraise on Big Give.

Personal medical/health related campaigns are not eligible..

The Community Foundation of Central Victoria reserve the right to determine who can and cannot set up a campaign on Big Give.

If you have any queries please contact [email protected]

What documents do we need to provide

Everyone who uses Big Give and needs to provide us with some photo identification (driver’s licence, passport or national identity card). We’ll also generally verify your details online. This is to give donors confidence that the people fundraising on are real people. If you’re in Australia and choose to use our direct credit card payment system, we will also need a copy of a recent bank statement or deposit slip. This just makes sure we’re sending the money to the right place. You can black out any sensitive information, but we need to see the Account Name, BSB and Account Number.

Standard credit card fees are also applied which are currently 2.0%-2.9% + 30c per transaction. If that’s a bit too much maths, here’s an example:

  2. At the payment page, the donor pays a minimum of the $25 + the transaction fees (80c) = $25.80
  3. The not-for-profit receives $24.15(96.5% of the donation)
  4. Our payment provider receives 80c

  6. Chuffed receives nothing
